That's What Friends Are For

Since the last post there have been some wonderful responses to our request for hats. Thank you so much to those who looked into their hearts, and closets, to offer donations. I can't wait to get them to the girls. And I'm sure we'll post some pictures of them modeling their latest millinery.

As I mentioned before, Jil -- the brave warrior in the battle against the beast -- endured quite a lengthy chemo treatment this week. A 24-hour prayer chain started for her and all others suffering from cancer was created on Facebook yesterday and as of this evening there are 105 (!) members with more than 1/2 of the hours already filled.

Wednesday was THE day. Jil (on the left) and Rhonda, her sister in solidarity, had their heads shaved. Even in the midst of this trying time, have you ever seen more beautiful faces?

If someone you know and love is battling this awful beast we call cancer, please let me know. I'll be lifting up Jil and others with cancer from 7:00 to 7:30 am every day and I'd like to pray for your loved one by name.

Thank you again for all your support and wishes for our friend. Blessings to you and all the quiet angels in your life.

Hats of Hope

Well, the quest has begun. I first wrote about our need for hats and other head coverings at A Southern Belle Trying Not To Rust and also emailed everyone in my address book. I've been amazed at the outpouring of support and offers. Here is what this project is all about:

"A fellow classmate is going through chemo and will be losing her hair soon. I am shaving my head with her. I am sending this note out to 'sistas' and friends...WE NEED HATS, SCARVES,...WIGS, DO-RAGS...anything to cover our bald eagle heads with...last time she did not have too much of a selection, so I want to change that! Jil, has the brave heart and soul as a warrior...and I want to have the honor to fight with her by her side! We need hats to keep our heads warm thru the winter months......luv ya Jil!"

This has really touched me, so what I'm trying to do is collect some hats for these beautiful women. It appears that Jil, the one stricken with cancer, will lose her hair in about a week with the course of treatment she's on. So...look through your closets, your children's closet, for hats, caps, scarves, bandanas, do-rags...anything you can donate, I can't imagine what it must be like to go through this and can only imagine how appreciated they will be. Also, it's going to be pretty chilly soon and they will definitely need something to keep their precious noggins warm. Ask the people you work with if they could also help out.

We can't have too many of them because y
'all it gets better -- after they're through with the hats and no longer have a need for them, we're going to "pay them forward"...passing all those hats, along with the prayers and positive thoughts they carry, to others in the same situation. Hats of Hope!

I have faith that Jil will have a wonderful wardrobe of head coverings while she's going through this ordeal. So, if you find it in your heart to contribute to this cause, please send your hats, caps...whatever you can to:
